After its global debut last month, Samsung has now launched the Galaxy Fit 3 for Rs 7,999 in Nepal. There aren’t too many surprises here — it’s essentially a fitness tracker that delivers just the basics. But if you compare it with the 2020 Galaxy Fit 2, there sure are some notable incremental upgrades.

The most immediate upgrade on Fit 3 is its bigger screen. It features a 1.6-inch AMOLED display which Samsung says is 45% bigger than the predecessor. The more screen real estate means more breathing room for information. However, the screen bezels are still noticeable and uneven.

Samsung is also playing it safe with the design. The Galaxy Fit 3 sticks with the established fitness tracker design language – a narrow rectangular body and a single physical button. Plus, its strap is easy to swap out thanks to a quick-release mechanism.

Being a fitness tracker primarily, the Fit 3 offers over 100 workout types, although, for outdoor activities, it relies on a connected smartphone for accurate GPS data. It also keeps tabs on sleep, steps, and stress levels – all of which are synced with the Samsung Health app.

New this time around are a couple of new safety features. The Fit 3 introduces Fall Detection, a first for Samsung’s fitness trackers, which alerts emergency services if it detects a hard fall.

Additionally, there’s an Emergency SOS function that you can activate by pressing the side button five times rapidly, It shares your location with the emergency contacts you’ve set beforehand.

The battery is a big win for Galaxy Fit 3. It doesn’t run WearOS like the premium Galaxy Watch 5 or 6, but rather RTOS, which is fairly lightweight and only focuses on essential functions. As a result, Samsung claims Fit 3’s 208mAh cell can deliver a battery life of up to 13 days on a single charge.

The tracker tops up via the company’s proprietary charger that uses two pogo pins at its base. Samsung says a 30-minute charge can recharge the Fit 3 to 65%. Other notable features of the Galaxy Fit 3 include a 5ATM / IP68 rating for protection against dust and water, and Bluetooth v5.3 for connectivity.
