MacBook Air with M3 chip Overview
The Air was the last of Apple’s laptops to get the M3 treatment. The chip was unveiled towards the end of last year and debuted it was not until March that the new MacBook Airs were announced.
Magic of M3 chip
The M3 chips ship with a 16-core Neural Engine which allows on-device computing for certain AI models like language processing and image generation.
The integrated GPU on the M3 supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, more realistic lighting, and shadows in games and supported applications.
Likewise, the new chip also brings an AV1 decode engine for video streaming on the MacBook Air lineup.
Productivity features
Talking about productivity, both 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with M3 chip support up to two external displays with the lids closed. Even the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro didn’t have this feature at the launch.
Moving on, the new M3 MacBook Air laptops come with Wi-Fi 6E on board for faster connectivity.
Build and Sustainability
Design-wise there is no substantial change in the M3 MacBook Air (13-inch and 15-inch). That said, Apple has added a fingerprint-resistant layer to the midnight color option. The other color options have remained the same.
The M3 MacBook Airs are made from 50% recycled material. They feature Apple’s Liquid Retina display with a notch on top. These screens support up to 1 billion colors and 500 nits of brightness.

The 15-inch M3 MacBook Air brings a bigger display with higher resolution than its 13-inch counterpart. However, when considering the pixel density, both even out at 224 PPI.
Moving on, the 15-inch MacBook Air comes with a six-speaker audio system against the four-speaker system on the 13-inch model.
